Sean
Costello April 16, 1979 - April 15, 2008 Rest in Peace
We are very sad to hear of the
unexpected death of Blues rising star Sean Costello. Sean was
found dead in his hotel room yesterday. Cause of death is not
known at present but details will posted on the Piedmont Talent
website as they are revealed. The note below is from Steve
Hecht at Piedmont Talent.
Remembering Sean Costello -
Tuesday, April 15, 2008
Sean Costello was a person I was
so looking forward to get to know better. He exuded positive
energy every time I was with him. I cherished the opportunity to
work with him over the coming years and being a part of his
growth as an artist and as a person. Man, his latest cd was his
best ever. The tone he coaxed out of that guitar was incredible.
Every song had that Sean Costello stamp on it. “Any Time You
Want” or “Hard Luck Woman” can easily be the song of the year!
His guitar along with voice was never better than it has been
recently. I got to see him about a month ago in Atlanta and he
was firing on all cylinders despite having just finished a long
grueling tour and having a new bassist that night. He was
producing some of his best work ever. It just kept you longing
for whatever he would do next. I will miss Sean and his youthful
exuberance. His energy inspired me. He left us a great musical
legacy.

"JAMES
RIVER BLUES SOCIETY OF SEDALIA"
We want to share some exciting news with
you that the James River Blues Society has merged with the
Sedalia Center! With this merger, the JRBS is now a
committee of the Sedalia Center consisting of appointed
members from both organizations. This partnership will
allow both groups to grow stronger and utilize a wider range
of resources that will augment our mission statements, goals,
and objectives. Rest assured that blues music will still
be promoted and perpetuated in Virginia!
As you may know, the James River Blues
Society and the Sedalia Center have worked together quite
successfully over the years producing the annual Blues Fest
that has quickly become one of the most anticipated events in
the region! We will still forge ahead with the annual
festival and will also look to enhance some of our other
important activities like the Blues Historical Marker Program,
blues educational endeavors, etc. At the same time, we
will have the opportunity to implement new strategies, secure
more assistance with projects, and simply build on our shared
interest in cultural arts that make working together in this
capacity such a natural fit.
The Sedalia Center has much to offer our community, and with
the added strength of the JRBS, the possibilities are endless!
You will still be able to contact the
JRBS by regular mail, e-mail, and phone during the transition.
Once the merger is complete, all inquiries will go directly to
the Sedalia Center.
We look forward to moving in a new
direction with our longtime affiliate and offering the
community a strong, viable entity that will continue to
promote blues music in Virginia and beyond! For more
information about the Sedalia Center, please visit
